About Me

Ecclesiastes 3:7 “There is a time to rend, and a time to sew”

Hello, I am known by many as Mammaw Lillian.

I am 64 years old and was enjoying my golden years retired with my wonderful husband in a small country town in Texas on property that I inherited. I have 3 beautiful grown daughters, 3 son-in-laws and many precious grandchildren.

Due to hurricane Ike hitting our home in Sept. 2008 we had been displaced and living with some of those wonderful daughters for 11 months. We had to purchase a new double wide mobile home and as of August 2009 moved back to our property and now finally settled in. I am so excited to be back home doing the things I enjoy like sewing and baking.

I have many great loves in my life: my husband, children, grandchildren, church, and the military men serving our country that I support on a regular basis. I loved to bake so I  spend lots of time making cookies for the military men and my grandchildren. What time I was not baking, I am usually in my sewing room doing all kinds of projects. If I live to be 120 years old, I could not even have enough time to do all that I have planned. Who said it slows down in old age?! God blessed me  now in our new home to have a huge kitchen to bake in and also a nice size sewing room.  So I really didn’t lose, just gained better.

In the 6th grade in school, I was introduced to sewing in Home Ecomonics class, and thus began my love of the sewing machine and all that can be created with it. I have been sewing every since that day: from my own clothes as a teenager, to my children’s and grandchildren’s clothes, dolls, toys, stuffed animals, purses and anything else that I could put together. In necessity of ecomonics, I even created every curtain, bedspread, etc that I decided I needed. If I needed a gift for someone, I made it or recreated one from denim scraps. People called it surviving, I called it FUN.

It wasn’t until the 70’s that I began my real love of creating with denim. It captivated me!!! In those days people discarded jeans that had a small hole in them, so I took them and redesigned  to make useful things. I created purses and skirts for my own daughters out of old denim jeans long before the fad ever came about. In the late 70’s, having a desire to make teenage neighbor kids a gift, I created denim quilts for their beds. They loved them! So on began my venture of making denim quilts for everyone. Then a baby shower came up at church, I needed a gift, so I created a baby denim quilt. Those were really big hits! Everyone that was expecting also expected a denim quilt. Only God knows how many of the quilts are out there that I have made and given away.

In 2007 I created a special denim quilt for a Military man that I supported in Iraq. I wish I could make them all of them one because they are all special. I had adopted many soldiers, marines, etc. to write, bake cookies for and send packages to. That was just put on hold for awhile since we were displaced by the Hurricane.  They are my heroes and I appreciate them and I must not forget them!

I have never before in my life sold any item that I have made, but by encouragement from my adult children, I decided to go forward with it. My favorite sayings in life are “WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU SCRAPS, JUST MAKE A QUILT, THEN THEY BECOME VALUABLE”, and “TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES” (My favorite flower). So that is how I chose my name for my website. My two loves denim and roses!

I don’t do many real large quilts anymore since old age has crept up on me some and it is so difficult. I just mainly do baby quilts and twin size bed quilts. Of all the quilts that I have made over the years, there are none exactally alike. I try to make them all unique.

The baby quilts are all different style, size, and unique so I will continue that.  You can be sure if you purchase a quilt from me, you will never see another one just exactly like it.

The Denim quilts are Handmade quilts without the use of a pattern. It will take me awhile to add more of the quilts back to my site since I lost 1 year out of my life when I was not able to sew.

I do have some machine embroidery items I am selling but inventory will be low for awhile since my embroidery machine was stolen from storage.

Recently I added 3 more categories "Quilt Preserves" "Say it with the Heart Pillows", and "Message handkerchief angels". Each one of these are unique and one of a kind.

I hope you enjoying viewing my items and stop by often to see what all I add weekly. There will be more handmade items items added as the Lord gives me the time and strength to do them. For it is HE that has given me the love, desire, strength, and talent to  make any of these things. For without Him, I am nothing!
